Payne Windows win Bronze at Glassex!
Payne Windows has been awarded the bronze in the Innovative Design category of Glassex competition 2007. The award acknowledges the modern design and build of a conservatory on the first floor of a grade 2 listed building. The glass structure allowed maximum sunlight into the building and replaced a dated, thermally inefficient single glazed roof.
Combining their expert knowledge of glazing technology and the skills of local architect Eduardo Hoyos, Payne Windows successfully built the innovative and unusual design for the new conservatory.
Special products were used to increase the thermal efficiency and comply with building regulations. Due to the inaccessibility to clean the structure, all frames were then glazed with Pilkington Activ Solar Control double glazed units.
The design takes full advantage of its south facing situation. The glass panels in the floor increase the amount of natural daylight in the kitchen below: a huge benefit due to the restricted sunlight coming from the kitchen window on the ground floor.
